The Master

Around the same time as Moore and McNaught were running along Lecky Road, Damien had been climbing a ditch to a field that led up to the hills on the east side of Derry. He had chosen to walk, because he needed time to think. The master will be very displeased with me, he thought. He will know about my failures already. He knows everything. I must reassure him I can corrupt the accursed boy; and I can, I know I can.

Shortly he came to a place known locally as, The Whinnies. The Whinnies was a maze of paths that wound through high whin bushes that grew throughout the several acres area. It was a lonely, dark place, frequented only during the brightest of summer days.

As Damien hurried along one of the paths, rabbits and other tiny creatures froze, too terrified to move when they sensed the evil aura that surrounded him. Damien's eyes were glowing and his face was shining white. As he walked through the paths he slowed slightly and began to change. The moon shone from a clear starry sky as he now crashed his way along the paths to a clearing near the centre of the Whinnies. As he strode into the clearing, some moths, attracted by his glowing eyes, flitted around his head. With a curse Damien spat at them then hissing softly he listened to make sure no one was near.

The clearing was about the size of a large tennis court. It was surrounded by higher whin bushes than those bordering the paths. A gate size gap was the only way in and out of the clearing. Still hissing and with his head jerking left and right he waited. He stood erect, his membranous wings spread out and dripping of a clear liquid. Now stretching out his arms he mumbled the ancient words that would summon his evil Master.

Five minutes later, a sudden wind began to blow. Lightning cracked from the now cloudy sky onto the clearing. Smoke wisped from the singed grass that soon formed a brown ring around Damien.

“Master,” he whispered, his tongue vibrating with frightened excitement. He smiled, his hideous face twisting into an even more horrible expression. Suddenly his eyes widened. Stiffening he fell flat on his face. His arms were still outstretched and his wings were folded across his back as he trembled, for now materializing out of the very molecules of air was evil incarnate, the master of all evil. Its goat's head was as big as an elephant and curved horns jutted up from it. Its eyes were as big as footballs. The rest of its grotesque body was barely visible because it was covered in a clinging black mist. More lightning flashed, hitting the ground tearing huge chunks of it in front of Damien's head. Damien's eyes widened with fear as he waited to be addressed.

“CACHA,” the deep rumbling voice of his Master said, as it glared at Damien. “YOU HAVE FAILED ME. YOU HAVE FAILED ME MISERABLY.
